DIY Throne Composting Toilet in a Skoolie – Mimi’s skoolie build

Mimi built her DIY Throne composting toilet for her Skoolie home. After trying different DIY options, she discovered the Throne products and her verdict is:

“Just put up initially, I couldn’t be happier for the decision I have made, the material of the urine diverter is very nice, thick and steady, once put it up together, there is no way it will leak, highly recommend”

Where are you using your DIY THRONE composting toilet?

We use it on our school bus conversion.

Why did you choose a composting toilet, and, more specifically, a DIY THRONE composting toilet?

I like its no leak design, and it’s also good looking.

Have you had any experiences with composting toilets before building the Throne and how has it been for you?

This is my first composting toilet, but this is the best I can get. It’s like using a regular toilet so far, we like it.

How was your experience building your DIY toilet?

I followed your free plan but changed it a little. Your original plan more slim looking, I like it, but concerning its “steadyness”, I added 1″ all around on the top rim, changed to 2×2 instead of 1×2. On the very bottom piece, I added another another piece that’s about 1″ wider all around so it sits “stronger”. Overall, I like it very much.

What’s your routine for managing your toilet?

Our “wet” part is connected to a garden house and it goes outside of our Skoolie into a large bin with wood pellets. It will last for a long time before we need to change it. Our “dry” part uses wood shavings. I did install the fan system. Haven’t use it yet, but I bet it wouldn’t be any problems. Planning to dump them into wooded area when it’s available, it’s good for the nature.

What do you like most about your DIY THRONE?

It looks like real toilet and feels the same too.
