Previously, in their old van, they had a homemade composting solution that used a simple funnel for urine diversion, which proved less effective. Building the toilet using the provided THRONE plans was straightforward, although finding the right corner molding for the top edge proved to be a slight challenge.

Daily routine and maintenance

The maintenance routine for the DIY THRONE is simple and straightforward. When full, they empty it, periodically cleaning the urine diverter to ensure everything functions smoothly. The system fits seamlessly into their off-grid lifestyle on a 10-acre property where they manage waste using a humanure setup.

Life with a composting toilet

The user appreciates the new 3-gallon jug’s capacity but is especially pleased with the urine diverter’s performance, which has significantly improved their experience compared to previous setups. The effectiveness and simplicity of the DIY THRONE make daily life in their bus more comfortable and sustainable.
