DIY composting toilet in a Skoolie – @thehivedrive DIY THRONE
The Hive Drive Bus Crew converted their beautiful Skoolie by themselves, and every part of it is an example of that perfect balance between a cozy home and efficiency in a tiny space.
Their bathroom is no exception (that shower is incredible!), and we’re honored to be part of their build with the THRONE diverter in their DIY composting toilet.
Where are you using your DIY THRONE composting toilet?
In our self converted school bus tiny home, so we are using it on the daily! 🚌
Why did you choose a composting toilet, and, more specifically, a DIY THRONE composting toilet?
We chose a composting toilet for a few reasons, one being not wanting to have a black tank in our rig. Another one being it was a more sustainable way to live and travel. We previously tried a different diverter and we unfortunately were not impressed with it, however, once we heard about Throne, we gave it a shot. We’re SOOO happy we did! It’s such a better option and like using a regular toilet as much as possible for a composting toilet!
Have you had any experiences with composting toilets before building the Throne and how has it been for you?
Yes, we did on Airbnb stays and visiting friends in their Skoolies, before building our own. We built our own composting toilet to save on costs and have one that better fit our layout and couldn’t be happier with it!
We love that the diverter makes it like using a regular toilet and was built with female anatomy in mind too 😂 much better than others!
How was your experience building your DIY toilet?
We used the plans from Modern House Cabin and built our own!
What’s your routine for managing your toilet?
We divert our urine to a gray tank and dispose of the solids.
What do you like most about your DIY THRONE?
How easy it was to set up and how easy it is to use on the daily!
We can’t recommend it enough! So glad we ended up switching from our old one to the Throne! It’s been a game changer!!!
